Guests on one of the Walt Disney World Monorail System trains had to wait for a tow into the Magic Kingdom station yesterday after smoke was detected coming from the control panel on the platform, shutting off power to the beam.
The smoke is said to have been caused by an electrical short in the control panel. Cast Members spotted the smoke and cut the power to the platform and beam, causing a monorail train to stop. Reedy Creek Fire Department attended the scene at around 10:15am, but found no fire. Guests are being transported on the Disney Transport buses and ferry boats whilst the Resort and Express Monorail lines are out of action. The Epcot Monorail line is unaffected.
The emergency services told Click Orlando that at no time were any guests in danger during the incident. It’s not yet clear when the Resort and Express Monorail lines will re-open.
Update: We’ve received indications that the Resort and Express Monorail lines are operating again today.
